The United States recognizes Dina Boluarte as president of Peru after the removal of Pedro Castillo

The Government of the President Joe Biden recognizes Jesús GarcíaDina Boluarte as president of Peru, after the dismissal of Pedro Castillo as president.

“USA. welcomes President Boluarte and looks forward to working with her administration to achieve a more democratic, prosperous, and secure region,” said the Undersecretary for the Western Hemisphere of the Department of State, Brian Nichols.

“We support his [Boluarte’s] call for a government of national unity and we applaud Peruvians as they unite in support of their democracy”, adds Nichols in a tweet.

Through the ambassador in Peru, Lisa Kenna, the Biden Administration expressed its support for the actions that defend the Peruvian Constitution, after Castillo was accused of violating Article 100 with his attempt to dissolve Congress.

State Department spokesman Ned Price said on Wednesday that the US rejected the violation of the Peruvian Constitution.

“You are right that our ambassador in Lima, Lisa Kenna…She made it very clear that we categorically reject any act that circumvents or contradicts the constitutions of Peru,” Price said. “This is not just a concern of the United States, it is a concern that we share with our partners.”

He added that the US has raised this in the Organization of American States (OAS).

“Under the Inter-American Democratic Charter, we share a hemispheric commitment to defend democratic values, human rights and the rule of law.” I observed that it was in the same Lima where the Inter-American Democratic Charter was signed more than 11 years ago, more than 60 years ago, excuse me”, he stated.

The governments of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Uruguay also recognize the presidency of Boluarte .
