A new poll by Yahoo News/YouGo revealed that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is now the leader of former President Donald Trump by a five percentage point lead in the race for the presidential nomination 1229106826.

Although in the last poll Trump surpassed DeSantis by a double-digit margin among voters who described themselves as Republican or not politically inclined, today the picture is different, and shows the “promising youngster” of the Republican party as the favorite.

According to the companies that released the new data, 1.635 Americans of legal age participated in the survey, which was conducted December 1-5

; the result makes it clear that Trump has fallen fast to DeSantis in a matter of weeks, just since he announced his candidacy for the White House from his Mar-a-Lago mansion. The negative impact would have been from several uncomfortable moments of Trump, such as, for example, the failed “red wave” targeting the former president did not take advantage of the key opportunities he had to gain ground, as well as his controversial dinner with a group of anti-Semites in Mar-a-Lago and finally the having asked through his social network to “end” the Constitution of the United States.

A few days ago, when asked in mid-October who they “would rather see” as the Republican presidential candidate of 2024, the 45% of registered voters who are Republican or Republican-leaning said Trump and only 36 % said DeSantis.

The story already is not the same, according to the new data, when asked now which of the two candidates they would “vote” for if their state’s primary or caucus were held today, same group says DeSantis by a margin of 49% to 42%, a five percentage point change in DeSantis’ direction in the span of six eventful weeks.

Yahoo News and YouGov also revealed that more Republican voters now say they want to see “another person” (42 %) as a candidate Republican instead of Trump (11 %), an 8 point decrease for Trump (from 49 ) and a 6-point increase for Trump. another person (from 41%) since mid-October.
