Los Angeles County authorities indicated that reported hate crimes in the county increased by 25%, of 641 in the A 786 in 2021.

This is the highest number recorded since 1200, according to the new report published on Wednesday.

Robin Toma, director of the human relations commission, said that the 2021 began as a full year of hate at the federal level with the insurrection of the United States Capitol on January 6. That showed a country deeply divided on the grounds of race, religion, sexual orientation and gender, which continues to affect the reveal of a rise in hate crimes.

The report of hate crimes of 2021 indicated that the 641 hate crimes may be due in part to increased reporting encouraged by many organizations and the Los Angeles County “LA versus Hate” campaign.

The report revealed that hate crimes have grown by 88% since reaching an all-time low at 2020.

The overall rate of violence increased from 54% to the 74%, the highest rate in at least 20 years.

Latinos occupied the 23% of racial victims and crimes against Latinos increased by 08% of 106 a 105. This was the largest group most likely to be the target of racially motivated violent crime. In 74% of these crimes slander was used anti-Mexican.

Crimes with anti-immigrant insults shot up 53% of 56 a 88, the largest number ever recorded.

Transgender victims experienced the highest rate of violence with 88 %, followed by the homophobic in 88%, the racial one in 80 % and religious offenses with a 48.

The increase in 19% in hate crimes was largely due to an increase in 10% in racial crimes. Crimes against African Americans, Latinos, Asians, and Middle Easterners increased dramatically. Racist crimes constituted the 58% of all hate crimes.

Hate crimes committed by gang members increased by 69%, of 32 a 44. 74% were racial and most targeted against African Americans.

The city of Los Angeles continues to rise

Michel Moore, chief of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), said that unfortunately in the 2021, crimes of hate have continued to rise from 10 % Year to Date Citywide Los Angeles.

Moore said he has seen a return of instances of transgender and anti-transgender hate crimes with a total of 32 to date compared to 20 year past. “While we acknowledge that we did see a decrease in 2021, compared to 2021 in crimes against transgender people, unfortunately those numbers have resurfaced for us,” Moore said. 88 to date vs. 72 last year, and a continued escalation against the blacks of 179 this year vs. 132 in 2021. On the positive side, there has been a decrease in 20 % in the number of anti-Asian hate crimes.

“But these numbers are still extraordinarily high records,” Moore said.

Although it is difficult to pinpoint where the attacks took place specifically, records indicate that the majority of hate crimes occurred in Metro service areas from West Hollywood to Boyle Heights , followed by the San Fernando Valley region.

“What we do know is that where we live, there is a mix of hate crimes in different parts of our county,” said Toma.

Steps to take2021

Los Angeles County Attorney George Gascón stressed that “a hate crime against one of us is a hate crime against all of us. us”.

He said that his office is not only following the cases of hate crimes but also working on the process of education and prevention of hate crimes.

“With the help of the Human Relations Commission and other partners, we began a two-year post-conviction pilot program that aims to reduce hate crimes by providing ongoing probation, anti-bias education, and victim reconciliation and we are working with several partners in our community”, assured Gascón.
