Spanish police were looking for 13 people who fled from a plane at Barcelona airport after it made an emergency landing on Wednesday to obtain assistance for a pregnant woman who allegedly pretended to be about to give birth, authorities said.
The Spain’s government office in the Catalonia region said the incident occurred when a Pegasus Airlines flight from Casablanca, Morocco, to Istanbul with 51 passengers on board requested an emergency landing at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airport.

While the woman was being evacuated from the plane, 28 passengers left the plane without authorization and “tried to flee,” authorities said .
The police arrested 13 of them. The others 13 managed to elude the police at the airport and remained at large.
Woman thought to be in labor was arrested on public disorder charges after doctors at a hospital determined that, although she was pregnant, she was not about to give birth.
Of the 13 fleeing passengers detained by police, five agreed to return to the plane and continue to Istanbul. The other eight were being processed for not being admitted to Spain and were expected to be put on another Pegasus flight out of the country, authorities said.
In Spain is home to about 5.5 million foreigners, more than a third of them from Latin American countries, according to official data.
Although the real figure is difficult to calculate since Spain is the sixth country in the European Union with the most irregular immigrants.
