Yesterday, the company reported that the past 23 of November, at 12: 40 local time, on Viking Polaris suffered an incident with a rogue wave while sailing to Ushuaia, Argentina.
Although the vessel sustained limited damage during the incident and arrived at port in Ushuaia without further incident the afternoon of 30 November, the incident resulted in the death of a passenger.
“It is with great sadness that we confirm that a guest passed away after the incident. We have notified the guest’s family and conveyed our deepest condolences. We will continue to offer our full support to the family in the coming hours and days,” Viking wrote in a statement posted on its website.
The company also released details about the people who were injured during the incident: “ Four other guests sustained injuries which They did not endanger their lives during the incident and were treated by the on-board doctor and health personnel,” the company stated.
Viking added that the company “continues to focus on safety and well-being of our guests and crew” and that they were working to organize the return trip for those affected by the trip. Viking also canceled the ship’s next departure, December 5, for the Antarctic Explorer itinerary.
Second incident in weeks
In mid-November, two men of United States nationality , of 76 Y 80 years, died when a semi-rigid boat in which they were participating in an excursion capsized in the sea, in southern Argentina.
According to the Télam Agency, the accident occurred with a group of passengers traveling aboard the “M/V Word Explorer”, a c Antarctic cruise ship of Portuguese origin who makes polar trips.
Most people who were on board could be rescued alive but not both American tourists who died at the scene and whose identities were not revealed revealed.
