Australia is not scared by facing Argentina in the round of 16 and believes in surprising Qatar 2022: “It will be an 11-on-11 match, there are not 11 Messis, there is one”

Australia was the surprise in Group D of the World Cup where they qualified for the round of 16 after defeating Tunisia and Denmark (both 1-0) and now they will face the favorite Argentina.

Despite not being the favourites, the Australians are not afraid and although they have respect for Messi, they will seek to hit the World Cup in Qatar 2022. Milos Degenek, the Australian defender, said that Messi is one of his favorite players, but that won’t stop him from wanting to win the game.

“I’ve always loved Messi and I think he’s the best I’ve ever played. He has never played”, declared Degenek, who added: “But it is not an honor to play against him, because he is only a human being, as we all are. It is an honor to be in the round of 16 of a World Cup. That is the honor in itself”, said Degenek.

The defender admitted that they had a lot of respect for France in the first game and that’s why they fell 4- 1 against the reigning world champions, but now against Argentina everything will be different.

“We had too much respect for them in that first game. The match (against Argentina) will be completely different. We obviously have time to prepare, and we will. But then again, they are two completely different styles of football. France plays one way, Argentina will play another way, “he explained.

Argentina arrives with two consecutive victories just like Australia. Both lost their opening match and later recovered to advance to the round of 16. This is the first time Australia has qualified for the round of 16 after having done so in Germany 2006.

“We know that this team is full of stars, even Dybala is on the bench and Lautaro Martínez comes off the bench”, Degenek added. The match will be on Saturday, December 3, the second match of the round of 16.
