Department of Justice requests all evidence of the Select Committee investigation

Attorney General Merrick Garland requires all transcripts and evidence

that has been collected over several months by the House Select Committee investigating the insurrection of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The attorney general made the comments to the press when asked about the investigations into the attack on the Capitol and whether the Department of Justice knows all the evidence that the House Committee has collected through all the interviews conducted throughout several months.

“We would like to have all the transcripts and all other evidence compiled by the Committee so that we can use them in the ordinary course of our investigations,” Garland said at a press conference.

“We are requesting access to all the transcripts and that is all I can say at this time,” he said without giving further details about it.

During the media meeting, Garland also made reference to the victories that the Department of Justice has had such as the convictions of members of the extremist group Oath Keepers who were found guilty of seditious conspiracy.

“The case where a jury found two leaders of the group guilty of seditious conspiracy was the result of the tireless work of investigators and prosecutors from the Department of Justice,” Garland said. the department will continue to work tirelessly to hold those involved accountable for the crimes related to the attack on our democracy on January 6, 2021″, he pointed out.

Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson, Chairman of the House Select Committee, had already mentioned that the Justice Department will first see the transcripts of the interviews that they have conducted over several months with various former assistants and allies of former President Trump and will deliver a final report in December with the conclusions of the investigation.

On another topic, the attorney general confirmed that he met with the special prosecutor he appointed for two investigations against Donald Trump, Jack Smith, who in turn has already spoken with his team of work.
