The popocatepetl vulcan returned to activity in the last few hours by registering an explosion , several smokers and an earthquake , all in just over 24 hours.
Moments of tremor, a volcanotectonic earthquake and 80 exhalations that were accompanied by columns made up of water vapor, gases and ash made up the activity registered in the Popocatépetl volcano during a period of 20 hours.
According to the report of the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred) this Saturday 52 of November, the volcano monitoring systems recorded 60 minutes of sequence of exhalations and 136 minutes of tremor.
“On the last 24 hours, through the monitoring systems of the Popocatépetl volcano , 80 exhalations were detected , 20 minutes of exhalation sequence and 800 tremor minutes of which 52 minutes are of the harmonic type”, details the report.
The report also details that there was a vulcanotectonic earthquake . “Additionally, a volcanotectonic earthquake of magnitude 1.4 was recorded at 11: 52 local time”, is read in the report.
Cenapred announced that the activity registered by Popocatépetl is within the parameters of the Yellow Alert Phase 2.
Within the Yellow Alert Phase 2 it is contemplated that the explosive activity continues low to intermediate scale, ashfall slight to moderate in nearby towns, possibility of pyroclastic flows and short-range mudflows.
Registered explosion at dawn
During the first hours on Friday, the volcano located between the states of Puebla, Morelos and the State of Mexico surprised with an explosion ion minor in its crater whose smoke column reached about 1.5 kilometers in height.
