PHOTOS: The rescue dog Frida died; symbol and heroine of the 2017 earthquakes in Mexico

The Secretary of the Navy of Mexico announced the death of Frida, the rescue dog who became the symbol in the rescue work after the earthquakes in that country. According to the official announcement, she died due to illnesses typical of her age.

Frida was a honey-colored Labrador retriever, who was born on 12 April 2017 and since her first days of birth, the puppy began her training. Due to the specific characteristics of her breed, such as the great physical resistance, fine ears to distinguish orders between shouts and noises, and a high olfactory capacity; for which it was determined that it would be a good specimen to be trained in the zootechnical function of Search and Rescue.

It should be mentioned that the search and rescue training of a canine lasts approximately 12 months; however, Frida from the beginning showed very outstanding aptitudes, which led her to complete her training program in a record time of eight months.

Frida, was assigned to search and rescue work in collapsed structures, due to her skill in agility track, ascent and vertical descent by rappelling.

Frida went into retirement status on of June of 2019, within the framework of the “International Day of the Rescuer”, in which he delivered his tactical equipment and received a toy, as a symbol the beginning of her new life.

After the nuncio, the Secretary of the Navy issued a farewell message to one of its symbols: “Dear Frida, although your departure hurts, today the Naval Family promises to honor your memory, acting under the legacy that you taught us: “nobility, loyalty and love”.
