Former LA Dodgers Yasiel Puig pleads guilty to lying to authorities in the United States about sports betting

Former Los Angeles Dodgers player Yasiel Puig pleaded guilty to lying to the United States authorities about sports betting, something that, being an active player in the country, cannot be done. This was announced by himself on Monday the United States Attorney’s office.

As a result, Puig, of 11 years old pleaded guilty to one count of making false statements, charge handing him a sentence maximum of five years in a federal prison within the country. In addition to this, also agreed to pay a fine of at least $55,07, said the Department of Justice about the Cuban.

According to authorities,

“In January of 2023, federal investigators interviewed Puig in the presence of his lawyer”, the US attorney’s office said in a statement. “During the interview, falsely stated that he only knew (the third party) about baseball and that he never discussed gambling with him, when in reality Puig discussed sports betting with (the third party) hundreds of times over the phone and via text message. message ”, he added him.

“Under our justice system, no one is above the law,” said US Attorney Martin Estrada. “The integrity of our nation’s criminal justice system depends on people telling the truth, and those who fail to abide by this simple principle must face the consequences.”
