Former Vice President Mike Pence launched himself against former President Donald Trump, accusing him that his speech at the rally prior to the attack on the Capitol put him and his family in danger.
“The president’s words that day at the rally [before the assault on the Capitol] put me, my family and everyone in danger. the Capitol building”, considered the former vice president in an interview with ABC News.
Pence, who wrote the memory book “So Help Me God ” (“God, help me”), where he talks about that passage, insisted that former President Trump’s rhetoric was “reckless”, just on the day the Electoral College votes would be certified.
“I mean, the president’s words were reckless . It was clear that he decided to be part of the problem,” Pence said.
He added that one of Trump’s tweets made him angry, where he accused Pence of “not having courage” enough to block the electoral certification and that the best thing was for him to “step aside”.
“I turned to my daughter, who was standing near her, and said, ‘It doesn’t take courage to break the law. It takes courage to uphold the law,’” Pence said.
On January 6, 2021, the former vice president had to be removed from the Senate, when Trump’s MAGA supporters attacked Congress, which was holding a joint session to certify electoral votes.
Since that event, the relationship between the two Republican politicians has marked a distance between them, even the former president continued to make negative comments towards Pence.
However, Pence has praised the policies of the administration of which he was a part, while rejecting the actions of the former president.
Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin (Maryland) trusts that Pence will testify before the Congressional Select Committee investigating the assault on the capitol.
“ I assume he will come forward and testify voluntarily,” he said.
