The New York Times reported that weeks before the midterm elections that were held on November 8, the former president Donald Trump made a late-night call to the head of the Republican National Committee, Ronna McDaniel, to issue a warning.

According to the aforementioned media, one of the key candidates he supported in a major battlefield state refused to call him “great president” during a debate that same night; the same Sunday, at midnight, Trump picked up the phone, called McDaniel to complain about Joe Lombardo , the Clark County Sheriff, who was running for Governor.

“Someone had sent the former president clips of that night’s debate in the Nevada gubernatorial race. Trump-backed Republican candidate, Joe Lombardo, the Clark County Sheriff, refused to call Trump a “great” president and withdrew. Mr. Trump’s Stolen Election Lie,” the Times report reads.

The claim was so strong that McDaniel asked him for an hour to fix the issue: “Someone had sent him to the former president clips of that night’s debate in the Nevada gubernatorial race. Trump-backed Republican candidate Joe Lombardo, the Clark County sheriff, refused to call Trump a “great” president and withdrew. Mr. Trump’s Stolen Election Lie.”

It is unknown what McDaniels said to Lombardo, but whatever he said worked, as the sheriff later referred to Trump as the great president “Mr. Lombardo soon issued a press release calling Mr. Trump a ‘great president’ ‘. The crisis was averted. The following week, when Mr. Trump held a rally in Nevada, Mr. Lombardo joined the choir singing his praises on stage.”

Lombardo won the Nevada gubernatorial race with his election.
