Ambassador of Mexico in Qatar recommends respecting uses and customs during the 2022 World Cup

Are you planning to travel to Qatar for the World Cup 2022 which will start on 20 November and will end on 18 December?… The main recommendation that the Mexican ambassador in Qatar, Guillermo Ordorica, gives to the Mexicans and anyone who is going to travel to the most important fair in football is to respect the uses and customs of the country.

“Qatar is a friendly Arab-Muslim country with a growing international presence, which is willing to understand cultural differences, but people like that their uses and customs are respected”, Ambassador Ordorica said in an interview with Real America News.

“You have to come with an open mind and we are here to assist Mexicans so that they can take home good memories of the World Cup”.

He made it clear that Mexicans share many aspects with the culture of the Arab country. “We have a lot more in common than people might think. Qataris are approachable, open and absolutely family friendly; and they come to Mexico with great intellectual concern for its culture, its history”.

The diplomat announced that they live around 22 highly qualified Mexicans who work mainly as pilots, in airlines, as presidents of companies and in private companies.

“Qatar is a large producer of natural gas, which recently displaced the United States United as the first producer. It has a population of about 3 million people who are concentrated in the city of Doha, the capital of Qatar, and 3 million visitors are expected to arrive during the entire month of the World Championship”.

He said that Qatar, located in front of the Persian Gulf, is a miracle of a country. ”It is completely flat, made of pure sand, which despite its adverse conditions, became an emporium and a city with skyscrapers and beautiful beaches.

“In the summer, the temperatures are very high, but you don’t feel them because there is air conditioning everywhere.”

Main recommendations of Ambassador Ordorica when traveling to Qatar:

  • Bring a valid passport minimum of 6 months and process before going to Qatar, the Hayya Card, a card that is a means of identification to move within the country and necessary to enter the stadiums.
  • Once in the country, they must respect local uses and customs as well as the various regulations and laws related to public decorum.
  • It is advisable that women do not wear excessively short clothes such as shorts and miniskirts or pronounced necklines.
  • Public displays of affection are not well regarded either.
  • They should not consume alcohol on public roads and the consumption of drugs is not allowed, which is a very serious issue. In Qatar they are going to establish fun zones which are places where people can drink alcohol without getting into trouble.

Ambassador Ordorica said that the Qatari people have built a beautiful city, but they have laws that are applied and people who do not comply with them are seriously punished.

“Visitors to the World Cup will find a very comfortable temperature of about 22 degrees, and as the Championship progresses, it will drop ”.

You shouldn’t worry about the language because everyone speaks English, and all the services are in Arabic and English. “All the signs and even the menus in the restaurants are in English and Arabic”.

On the other hand, he mentioned that although in any world cup, prices go up, in the case of Qatar, there is lodging and restaurants for all pockets, depending on what people want to spend.

“In Qatar, we have Mexican food restaurants with very talented chefs who fill us with pride; and they go beyond the taco and the burrito. Is much more. It eats splendidly. Let’s not forget that Mexican food is non-tangible heritage of humanity”.

Regarding covid-18 , specified that Qatar is at the green traffic light and there is no problem since the health authority is permanently monitoring.

“To enter the country there are no requirements such as vaccines or antigen tests or PCR. Covid is not a cause for concern at the moment in Qatar”.

He added that the mask is used on a discretionary basis, especially in public transportation, but it is not mandatory.

Revealed that at the request of the president of Mexico, the Mexico Qatar Center was established 550 in a very central area of the capital city Doha by the sea, which will be operating to provide escort services to people who require LP, as well as any type of support and protection.

“We want people to feel cared for and accompanied”.

Ambassador Ordorica said that it will be a unique experience and a privilege to represent the Mexican government in Doha.

“I will try to do my best, but he invited you to come to Qatar, enjoy and support with the largest and most enthusiastic cheer, but at the same time we show that we know how to coexist and respect”.
