Criminal groups operating in the state of Guanajuato burned several cars and blocked roads, in addition to murdering a policeman in the midst of a wave of violence registered since the capture of Juan Rodolfo Yépez Ortiz, brother of José Antonio Yépez, alias the “Marro”, founder of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel .
According to reports from the authorities, at least 54 cars were burned in different parts of the state, as well as the fire of a self-service store of the “Oxxo” chain.
In addition, an armed attack against municipal police officers in Celaya left an officer dead and two others injured . The attacked officers were drinking coffee in a street stall when a group of hitmen got out of two vehicles to shoot them with large-caliber weapons.
The Municipal Government of Celaya reported that the injured police officers are stable and out of danger. After the attack there was an operation and a few minutes later a chase, in which at least three of the attackers were arrested .
Total , the Guanajuato authorities have arrested seven people responsible for the burning of vehicles and drug blockades, who will be brought before the courts to charge them with terrorism, according to the State Attorney General’s Office.
These facts were add to the attack perpetrated at the Lexus bar, in the municipality of Apaseo el Grande, where hitmen killed at least nine people, one of them identified as the owner of the business.
Since 2018, the state of Guanajuato concentrates the highest number of homicides in the country and, according to local authorities, nine out of each 10 victims have some link to organized crime.
According to Efe, this year, from January to September, 2 have been registered,424 murders in the entity, a figure that represents % of those that occurred nationwide .
