The 5 states where Americans spent the most and 5 the least in 2021

The personal consumption expenditures (PCE, English) of Americans registered an increase of 10.7% in 2021, after a 1.9% decline in 2020, according to statistics released this Thursday by the US Bureau of Economic Analysis

In all states and the District of Columbia, PCE per capita increased to $46,918 dollars in 2021 compared to $31,583 dollars registered in 2020. PCE per capita by state ranged from to a maximum of $47,532 dollars in Massachusetts and a minimum of $20,445 dollars in Mississippi.

PCE per capita statistics for 2021 for all states and the District of Columbia reflect higher personal income in 2020 and growth in consumer spending, including spending on food services and housing and medical care.

What Americans spent on

The report indicated that, the greatest expenses made by consumers were allocated to food, accommodation and medical services.

Food services tion and accommodation increased by 20.4 % at the national level and were the ones that contributed the most to the increases in 20 states, including Florida, the state with the third largest increase in PCE.

Attention medical increased by .4% at the national level and was the item that contributed the most to the increases of 29 states and the District of Columbia, including Idaho, the state with the second largest increase.

Spending on items and recreational vehicles increased by 21. 1% at the national level and the main The main contributors to the increase were in Utah.
