Ronaldinho says that his mother was “an inspiration of strength and joy” in an emotional message after his death

Ronaldinho paid a tribute to his mother after she died of complications from the coronavirus. Miguelina Eloi Assis dos Santos contracted the disease in December and died in hospital last weekend, at the age of 71 years .

The former soccer star had not been able to express his feelings, and in fact did not attend the funeral of his dear mother for being so distressed, so this Wednesday he opened for the first time through Instagram.

“My family and I thank you all for the love and support that we are getting at this very difficult time. My mother was an inspiration of strength and joy to all who knew her and she will continue to show her light in our lives forever. With the strength she taught us, we will continue our journey. Thank you. ”

Ronaldinho was described as too heartbroken to attend his mother’s funeral on Sunday. The ceremony in Porto Alegre was attended by his older brother Roberto and his sister Deisi.

On Tuesday night, Leeds star Raphinha paid her own tribute to Miguelina after scoring at Southampton.

Both are from the Restinga neighborhood of Porto Alegre, the extreme family is close to Ronaldinho’s. And Raphinha revealed a handwritten message on his vest that read: “Much strength for the Assis Moreira family. Rest in peace, Mrs. Miguelina. ”
