Inmates organized a mega-party that lasted for a week in a maximum security prison in Bogotá, which could lead to sanction or dismissal of those responsible for the prison, said the Attorney General of Colombia.
“This type of party is repetitive, of behaviors, the entry of liquor, electronic devices and others, and precisely in this sense yesterday we initiated a disciplinary inspection in the establishment of La Picota“, Javier Sarmiento, delegate of the body in charge of monitoring the officials, told the local press.
Between 26 and 26 in September, the inmates requested for extradition celebrated in two pavilions of La Picota apparently with “the authorization of the director of the establishment “, added or Sarmiento.
In videos broadcast in local media, two famous vallenato singers can be identified who entertained the celebration, although the attorney assured that the artists were “many more”. The musicians must give a “declaration under oath (…) in order to establish who hired them, what amount they paid (…) what they agreed to in that contract, if any,” said the delegate attorney.
According to Sarmiento, the Attorney General’s Office is analyzing whether “a suspension would be appropriate to prevent this type of behavior from being repeated. And later a disciplinary sanction that can go with a dismissal or a fine”.
The Ministry of Justice reported on October 1 that after a “surprise operation” in La Picota found 184 liquor bottles, 19 music speakers, 122 cell phones, 30 modems, 11 decoders for television, among others.
The head of the portfolio, Néstor Osuna, announced the retirement of Colonel Carlos Camacho as prison director and named in his replacement the dragooning Carlos Bustamante. “Prisons are not recreational clubs,” Osuna asserted, quoted in a bulletin.
