Passengers on a flight from Mexico to Los Angeles had a terrifying moment Tuesday night when they saw the plane’s engine seize up. lit up and burned minutes after takeoff from the city of Guadalajara, in Mexico.
The airline Viva Aerobús clarified the incident that occurred in one of its Airbus A 320 aircraft on a flight between Guadalajara and Los Angeles, where there was a failure of engine two of the aircraft, however, the company assured that at no time were the passengers at risk.
“Minutes later, during the flight, there was a failure related to engine number two, which caused sparks to come out due to metal friction. In accordance with the established security protocols, he returned to the Airport”, Viva Aerobús said in a statement.
The airline specified that at all times the crew maintained control of the aircraft in accordance with the procedures established by the manufacturer, which are designed to continue safe operation under these conditions.
Viva Aerobús mentioned that the flight attendants provided timely and professional attention to passengers who required it.
The flight had left Guadalajara when passengers looking out the window saw sparks and flames coming from the right engine
, while some claimed that an explosion was heard a few 10 minutes after takeoff.
The presence of sparks and fire in the engine caused the passengers panicked, some screamed and cried, while others prayed.
The passengers alerted the flight crew, who turned the plane around and landed safely in Guadalajara, about 10 minutes after they had taken off.
No people were reported injured in the incident.
The airline continues its investigations into what caused the aircraft engine failure.
