One more case of police officers killed in the line of duty occurred recently in Mexico City, when a car, driven by people while intoxicated, ran over four uniformed men and killed one of them.
The police assigned to the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City participated in the “Safe Passenger” operation, which is carried out to prevent the commission of crimes in public transport, when were rammed by the vehicle.
The SSC explained that the woman who was driving the black Mazda car was detained at the scene, while the co-pilot took the wheel of the unit and accelerated to run away .
He continued driving on a major avenue in the capital until, at a traffic light, he abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee on foot. With the help of video surveillance cameras, the car and the second one involved in the attack against the police were located.
“The detainee and the seized vehicle were placed at the disposal of the corresponding agent of the Public Ministry, where the investigations will be followed up and it will be determined their legal situation”, explained the SSC.
The police officers were treated by paramedics from the Medical Emergency and Rescue Squad (ERUM) who reported on the death of one of the elements.
The other three uniformed officers were taken to the hospital, one with a dislocated left arm, another with a femur injury and one more with an apparent hip fracture.
Omar García Harfuch , Secretary of Security of Mexico City, referred to the event and confirmed the arrest of the two people involved, reporting that both were under the influence of alcohol.
