A shocking hot air balloon accident left three of its passengers seriously injured after the aerial device bounced off a building and crashed against a moving train.
Burlington City Police Department in Wisconsin confirmed to The Sun that “three adult occupants suffered life-threatening injuries” in the shocking Wednesday night accident.
The incident occurred at 8: 15 pm local time near North Calumet Street.
The police statement read: “Air support was requested and two of the three patients were transported to Froedtert Hospital for treatment.
“The third patient was transported overland by ambulance to Froedtert.
“The first reports of witnesses at the scene indicate until the hot air balloon appeared in danger and collided with a Canadian national train heading north”.
Members of the Fire Department of the cities of Burlington, Waterford Village, Rochester and Kansasville were at the scene.
Police confirmed that the investigation into the incident is ongoing as of the 1: 45 am.
firefighters told the local ABC affiliate that the airlifted passengers were taken to Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Witnesses described seeing the balloon hit a building and bounce off, hitting a moving train, according to a local NBC affiliate.
Bystanders reportedly ran to help the victims and photos show the hot air balloon entangled in telephone wires .
The basket does not seem to be connected.
Railway crews remain on site inspecting the train tracks, according to local media.
It is not clear what may have caused the incident.
Burlington is located about 35 miles southwest of Milwaukee.
The city wrapped up its festival just two days ago that spanned Memorial Day weekend and had a variety of offerings including rides, games, food, and live entertainment.
