The technical director of the Guatemalan national team, the Mexican Luis Fernando Tena, summoned this Monday to 23 players to join the team that will face the Concacaf Nations League.
Tena’s list includes four soccer players who play abroad: Antonio de Jesús López (Necaxa from Mexico), Gerardo Gordillo (Gualaceo from Ecuador), Rubio Méndez Rubín (Real Salt Lake from the USA) and José Pinto (Tacuary from Paraguay).

The Mexican made the official announcement once the Closing tournament 2021 of the Guatemalan football, which was conquered by Comunicaciones, led by Uruguayan Willy Coito, with a 2-0 aggregate victory over its historic rival, Municipal, led by Paraguayan coach José Cardozo.
In fact, both clubs They provide almost half of the players summoned by Tena. Of the champion, Communications, 6 players were summoned, while 5 were called by the Municipal.
In the Concacaf Nations League, Guatemala is in Group B and will play four games, against French Guiana, Belize and Dominican Republic on two occasions.
The regional tournament, which will end in 2023, is a qualifier for the Gold Cup that year. The Tena squad includes the Costa Rican nationalized Guatemalan, Andrés Lezcano, who is part of the Communications squad and was an important piece in winning the title.
According to the Concacaf schedule, Guatemala will visit to Guyana on June 2, will host Belize on June 5 and then play the Dominican Republic twice on 10 and 13 of June, first the island and later in the Guatemalan capital.

In March of 2023, Guatemala will return the visit to Belize and will play at home against French Guiana.
Guatemala enters the Concacaf Nations League undefeated in four games since Tena was appointed as their coach last December.
