From camps, the practice of some sport and even earn a few good dollars are among the activities that children and young people can enjoy from Los Angeles during the summer.

The mayor of the city, Eric Garcetti, and the superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District, Alberto Carvalho, were in charge of presenting the programs that will be offered for children and youth residing in Los Angeles.

“ Summer is a time to learn, grow and play, and in Los Angeles we are committed to providing those opportunities to our children and youth. The city has something for everyone, from sports and arts programs, to the chance to earn a paycheck while developing the skills to launch a career,” Garcetti said.

Among the activities offered by the city for this summer is the Play LA sports programme, for children and young people from 5 to 17 years; Swim LA, open to children and young people from 4 to 17 years old; LA’s Best, which offers after school programs for elementary students; and Hire LA’s Youth, which provides job opportunities for youth from 14 to 24 years.

There is also Summer With The Library, with artistic and educational activities; the Summer Art Program, with the Department of Cultural Affairs with art and music classes ; as well as YouthSource Center and FamilySource Center, which offers job training and academic support.

Summer programming expanded thanks to the support of a $9 million dollar donation from the Ballmer Group, an organization founded by Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and his wife Connie, which supports efforts to improve the economic mobility of low-income children and families; and contributions from The Eli & Edythe Broad Foundation and Great Public Schools Now.

“We know that students who have access to summer activities and learning of high quality see less learning loss; are more likely to stay involved in school, get more access to mental health care, and have safe places to be, all as long-standing hallmarks, long-term success and economic mobility,” said Ballmer Group Los Angeles CEO Nina Revoyr.

The School District also offers summer schools at 600 LAUSD Area Sites and Pre-K summer learning opportunity is also available.
