Texas authorities released on Wednesday new details of as law enforcement officers who intervened in the shooting that occurred at an elementary school in Uvalde, managed to arrest the gunman Salvador Ramos in the middle of an impressive shootout, according to CNN.

The gunman of 18 years he had shared his plans on Facebook a few 30 minutes before arriving at school, said Texas Governor Abbott.

He shot him her grandmother in the face before heading to the primary school. The grandmother of 80 years old came to a nearby house and called the police, said the director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Steven McCraw, and added who now remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Minutes before his deadly assault on the school, the gunman allegedly sent a series of chilling text messages to a girl in Germany whom she met online, saying that she had just shot her grandmother and was going to “shooting up in an elementary school”. According to screenshots reviewed by CNN and an interview with the teen, Ramos complained that her grandmother was “on the phone with AT&T about (sic) my phone” and then told her that she had been shot in the head.

These are the new details related to the actions of the authorities in the Texas Elementary School Shooting:

The Gunman drove his grandmother’s vehicle about 0.05 miles, at a block and a half away from Robb Elementary School. “He crashed the vehicle at that time. He came out with a backpack, he took a rifle” and headed to the west side of the campus, reported the director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Steven McCraw.

According to McCraw, a school resource officer “intervened” with Ramos and at that time there was no exchange of fire.

This happened when Ramos entered the school through a back door and walked down the hall to adjoining classrooms, McCraw said.

Governor Abbott offered additional details of the actions of the agents during a press conference on Wednesday: “Officers from the Consolidated Independent School District (ISD) approached the gunman and engaged in a confrontation with the gunman,” Abbott said. “The gunman then entered through a back door and then went down two short hallways and then entered a classroom on the left side.”

According to Abbott, the gunman entered a room which was then connected internally to another classroom. The gunman then barricaded himself in adjoining classrooms and began a high-powered shootout against fourth grade students and teachers.

With the shooter locked inside, the officers were at a disadvantage. “There wasn’t enough manpower at the time, and their primary focus was to preserve any further loss of life. They started breaking windows around the school and tried to rescue, evacuate children and teachers while that was happening”.

A specialized tactical team of local and federal officers arrived, forced their way into the classroom and killed the gunman. A team official was injured and was expected to survive.

“Border Patrol, Consolidated ISD officers, police, sheriffs, and DPS officers converged on that classroom. And a Border Patrol officer killed the gunman”, Governor Abbott said.

Chip King, a firefighter and Uvalde City Councilman, said that took about 30 minutes later that he arrived on the scene so that the armed man inside the school was neutralized by the police.

The shooter had a rifle in his possession when he entered the school and was wearing “a tactical vest with no panels ballistics,” a law enforcement official told CNN.
