More Jif Peanut Butter Products Recalled Due to Salmonella Outbreak in 12 U.S. States

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) increased the number of Jif-brand peanut butter products that have had to be recalled due to the salmonella outbreak present in 12 states of the country.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a security alert in recent days. In it they said that at least 14 people from 12 states of the country had been infected by the bacteria and two of them were hospitalized.

Among the states where the outbreak has been detected are Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, Ohio, North Carolina, New York, South Carolina, Virginia, Texas and Washington.

Earlier in the week, JM Smucker Co. voluntarily announced the recall of more than 59 Jif peanut butter products before possible contamination. The recalled items have on their labeling the batch code 1274425 to 21440425.

Among the withdrawn products, creamy, crunchy, natural and reduced-fat butters stand out. These products were distributed throughout the country in retail stores and other points of sale.

The company said it was unaware of the financial impact that this hit will have on your financial statements. He said that he will provide additional information later.

For its part, the FDA said that the salmonella outbreak is linked to a JM Smucker Company facility in Lexington, Kentucky.

According to the National Library of Medicine, salmonella is a bacteria which can be present in foods such as meats, eggs, fruits, vegetables, and processed foods, and can cause more than a million foodborne illnesses in the country.
