A California Highway Patrol officer was attacked in East Los Angeles.

In an incident that authorities described as an ambush, a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer and sheriffs from the Los Angeles County were attacked this Tuesday in East Los Angeles, shooting in which a suspect was injured.
Approximately 9 o’clock: 00 am, a CHP officer was driving a patrol car when he was attacked at the intersection of Third Street and Ford Boulevard
, reported Sheriff’s Lieutenant Patricia Thomas at a press conference.

Two armed men also fired at Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) officers who were in the area, and they, along with the CHP officer, returned fire, Thomas said.
One of the two suspects was shot during the exchange of bullets and was transferred to a hospital
l, authorities said. The second suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
The condition of the hospitalized suspect is unknown, while no CHP officer or LASD was injured in the attack.
At the scene of the shooting, authorities recovered a gun.
Images at the scene of the shooting showed that the Rear window of a California Highway Patrol car was completely shattered.
Video from a bystander captured the moment a hail of gunfire erupted during the shooting.

Investigators were looking to examine surveillance video for possible footage of the shooting, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The motive for the shooting of the two suspects is under investigation.
A description of the suspect who fled the scene was not immediately available.
