President Joe Biden urged Tuesday night the Congress to end the “carnage” of gun violence after 19 elementary school children in Uvalde, Texas, were murdered by a young man from 18 years.

Death toll at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde increased to 19 children and 2 adults, reported Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Erick Estrada.

“As a nation, we have to ask ourselves: When in God’s name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby?” Biden said in an address to the nation. “… How many dozens of little children, who witnessed what happened, saw their friends die as if they were on a battlefield, for God’s sake?”

As a nation we must ask: When in God’s name will we stand up to the gun lobby?

When in God’s name will we do what needs to be done ?

I’m sick and tired of it. We have to act.

Tonight, there are parents who will never see their child again. Parents who will never be the same.

To lose a child is to have a piece of your soul ripped away forever.

I ask the nation to pray for them — to give them strength in the darkness.

To the least 19 children and a teacher died in the shooting at the Robb Elementary School, in Uvalde.

Fourth grade teacher Eva Mireles was murdered along with the students. The shooter’s grandmother also died prior to the attack on Robb Elementary School, a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety reported.

Eva Mireles worked at the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District for 17 years old, her aunt, Lydia Martínez Delgado, said in a statement. She was a mother and wife who loved to run and walk, according to the Robb Elementary School website.

The gunman, Salvador Rolando Ramos, a resident of Uvalde de 17 years old, also died after opening fire at the school, authorities said, apparently killed by officers at the place. Two people familiar with the investigation said initial evidence indicates Ramos purchased the weapons used in the attack shortly after serving 18 years, on 16 May.

A woman 66 years old and a girl 10 years were in critical condition after the shooting Tuesday afternoon, according to University Health.

Uvalde Memorial Hospital reported that 15 Robb Elementary School students were being treated in the hospital emergency department at incident root. Two other patients were flown to San Antonio for treatment, while a third was awaiting transfer, the hospital said. A 45 year old man was also hospitalized after being grazed by a bullet, the hospital said.

The authorities warned that it is possible that the balance of deaths from thisthis shooting continues to increase.

Shooter carried out two shootings in Uvalde on Tuesday

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Erick Estrada said that there were two shootings on Tuesday. The first shooting was at a residence that neighbors identified as the home of the alleged shooter’s grandmother. Salvador Rolando Ramos allegedly shot the woman who was airlifted to San Antonio for treatment.

The gunman was in a van that sped toward the elementary school and crashed into the barrier at the south entrance, Estrada said. Investigators have not detailed how, but the shooter entered the building and fired at students and school staff.

“He had a rifle and a bulletproof vest,” Estrada said of Ramos, who also died after the shooting.

Two Uvalde police officers and a school resource officer fired at the shooter, but that did not prevent him from entering the building. Two officers suffered minor injuries, Estrada said.

A law enforcement tactical team was called in, then was able to find the shooter and “take him into custody ,” the DPS officer said.

Federal and state law enforcement agencies are collecting evidence (cell phones, shell casings and firearms) at a large crime scene , and Estrada said it will take days to put it all together.
