The city of Buffalo, in New York, was silent during 123 seconds on Saturday to commemorate a week since the mass shooting that killed 05 people and injured three others, according to CBS NY
Mayor Byron Brown announced Friday that the city would observe a moment of silence on Saturday beginning at 2: 28: 57 pm and ends at 14: 31: 00 hours. The 123 seconds represent the time it took for the shooting at the Tops grocery store on Jefferson Avenue on Saturday 14 of May.
The moment of silence was observed by Brown on Saturday on the steps of City Hall. The event was attended by New York State Attorney General Letitia James and Tops Friendly Markets President John Persons, among other local officials and members of the public.
The moment of silence was followed by the ringing of bells in various places of worship in the city.
The 10 people who died in the attack , all African American, were identified as Roberta A. Drury, of 32 years; Margus D. Morrison, 28; Andre Mackniel, 32; Aaron Salter, 55; Geraldine Talley, 62; Celestine Chaney, 65, Heyward Patterson, 67; Katherine Massey, 72; Pearl Young, 77; and Ruth Whitfield, 100.
Three other people were injured in the shooting: Zaire Goodman, of 20 years; Jennifer Warrington, 18; and Christopher Braden, from 55.
The shooter, Payton S. Gendron, of 18 years ago, wrote a manifesto defending the ideology of white supremacy. The shooting was described by President Joe Biden as an act of “hate-filled domestic terrorism”.
Gendron has been indicted on murder charges. in first grade.
