Skittles, Lifesaver and Starburst packages are withdrawn from the market after detecting the presence of metals

Hundreds of Skittles, Starburst and Lifesaver brand candy packages are being recalled from retail store shelves due to a metal issue in the candy.

According to Mars Wrigley Confectionery, the company that owns the three candy brands, there are several batches affected with the possible presence of a very thin metal strand.

This metallic element may be embedded in the candy or be loose in the bag containing the candies and gummies.

According to a report by Mars Wrigley Confectionery, the company learned of the problem from several consumer reports about the presence of the metal in sweets, according to a report published in Fox Business.

“We received reports from consumers who alerted us to this matter and we are not aware of or no disease to date”, assured Mars Wrigley Confectionery in a statement.

The company assured that for the collection of the batches that could be affected , work in “close collaboration” with the retail stores that received them.

Mars Wrigley Confectionery detailed that the candy packages with problems were distributed in retail stores in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The company announced the batches that could be affected and asked consumers to review the manufacturing code of 10 digit, which is located on the back of the packaging.

As detailed, the sweets affected by the small metallic filament were manufactured by a third party contracted by Mars Wrigley Confectionery.

At the end of last April, the World Health Organization warned of the presence of salmonella in batches of the famous Kinder chocolate, in another case that involved candies with international distribution.
