In one of the most guarded and armored sections of the border between United States and Mexico a sophisticated drug tunnel , which connected the cities of San Diego, California, with Tijuana , Baja California. According to US authorities, this tunnel extends half a mile from the Otay Mesa border crossing to Tijuana. Once you get to that Mexican city, the underground passageway extends another third of a mile. Its diameter is 4 feet. These proportions indicate that the section built by drug traffickers in the United States has a length similar to that of an American football field.

Its walls are reinforced, it has a system of electricity, ventilation and rails. By the way, it was located in an area where more than a dozen drug tunnels have been found in recent years 20 years. This tunnel starts near a house in Tijuana and ends at a warehouse in an industrial zone in the United States. He also passed through a street market on the border.

During the operation, the National Security agents of the United States seized 1,100 pounds of cocaine, 164 pounds of methamphetamine and almost 4 pounds of heroin, with a value on the street of $25,000,000 of drug dollars. They also arrested six drug traffickers, but they have not reported which cartel they worked for. However, in 2020, the Anti-Drug Agency (DEA revealed that most of the tunnels are related to the Sinaloa Cartel (CDS), which founded Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera.

The people arrested were identified as Mario Jaramillo, from Huntington Beach; Adrian Enriquez, of Perris California; Juan Cruz, from San Ysidro; and Vanessa Ramírez, Luz de Luna Olmos; and Manuel Perez, from San Diego. Two of them also face previous charges for trafficking methamphetamine and heroin.
