What was illusion and joy for a mother for the arrival of her daughter, turned into a nightmare after her baby fell headfirst to the floor at the time of delivery, causing the newborn born a cranioencephalic fracture, for which she had to undergo emergency surgery.
Josiane Marques Pereira, mother of the baby, reports that went to the Hospital “Maternity Sofía Feldman” located in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, to be treated as she had severe labor pains. However, when she arrived at the scene, the doctors only took her vital signs and left her in the waiting room
“It was the closest hospital to my house. They took my file and just took my blood pressure and asked me to wait. They did not do a touch test”, said Josiane.
After waiting more than 40 minutes and increasing the intensity of the pain In labor, Josiane asked a nurse for help, who told her that she would have to go to the room alone, so she was forced to get up and walk.
It was just at that moment that everything got complicated, Josiane couldn’t get to the room, she started to spill amniotic fluid, her husband tried to get a wheelchair but was unsuccessful.
“She couldn’t sit still. I needed to go to bed, but there was no way. So I sat on the edge of the seat, almost lying down. It was then that I only felt the baby come out and heard the sound of her falling to the ground “, details the mother.
It was until that moment the doctors attended them. After the brutal fall, baby Olivia was transferred to the João XXIII hospital, with a more complex specialty and an emergency operation, where she received eleven stitches on her head.
Olivia was discharged a week later, but will be under constant treatment and review by the neurologist to avoid possible sequelae.
Given this fact, the Civil Police indicated that they will investigate the case to determine the corresponding sanctions.
“Regarding the occurrence of bodily injuries recorded on May 8, the Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG) instituted procedures to investigate the case. The investigation is being carried out by the Specialized Police Department for the Protection of Children and Adolescents”.
