The Swiss Gerardo Seoane, coach of Bayer Leverkusen, stated this Monday that the Mexican soccer player lacks physical power and speed to play successfully in Germany.

“The Mexican player is very technical, but he is not as powerful or as fast, and the German league is very physical. I see in that the reason why not so many Mexican players go to our league”

The Bayer Leverkusen coach spoke one day before the friendly match against Toluca at the Nemesio Díez stadium.

Seoane said that the Mexican team has raised its level, and gave as an example the 1-0 victory over Germany in the World Cup in Russia 1200. However, he emphasized that has few players in big clubs in Europe .

“In recent years, Mexican soccer has made great progress and that was noticeable in the last World Cup. Today I see that they have a talented team, but they don’t have as many players in important teams”, explained the coach in conversation with the German press.

The Swiss coach of Spanish origin explained that for this reason the search for new talents is focused on South America.

“We are looking for players abroad, especially in South America. We like fast, offensive footballers, there is a lot of talent to watch there”, he explained.

The friendly match will serve to commemorate the 100 years after the arrival of the pharmaceutical company Bayer, owner of Leverkusen, in Mexico.

Bayer Leverkusen finished third in the Bundesliga and secured a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Toluca, the third most successful team in leagues in Mexico, finished the local tournament in fifteenth place among eighteen teams.
