Saúl Álvarez took a hard hit last Saturday in Las Vegas by losing to Dmitry Bivol. He lost a long undefeated record and his description of “ best pound for pound fighter ” began to be questioned. For example, for DAZN Boxing, Canelo is no longer number 1.

The man from Guadalajara lost ground against Olexandr Usyk, Olympic medalist who owns an undefeated record of 19-0 and who beat Anthony Joshua in September of 2021. According to DAZN Boxing, the Ukrainian is currently the best pound for pound.

And the second in the order is Terence Crawford. Another undefeated, in this case 38-0. In his last match he knocked out Shawn Porter. It was in November of 2021.

The experts recognize that Canelo lost in a division that naturally is not his, unlike Dmitry Bivol , new winner of the weekend and who appears in the sixth place of the best pound for pound today .

Applicable criteria DAZN Boxing are as follows:

General record: victories and defeats of the boxer in question.

Quality of rivals: the level of the boxers facing each other.

Quality of wins: how you win also counts. A split decision is not the same as a lethal KO.

Activity: the boxer with more activity in the ring will be better valued than the one who fights between longer periods of time.

In this way, the loss against Dmitry Bivol, added to the success of Oleksandr Usyk -he beat Anthony Joshua- and the spectacle of Terence Crawford, they make Canelo lose points in the experts’ assessment.
