On certain occasions when driving in our car we can see that the exhaust pipe expels an amount of smoke that we are not used to. A clear sign that it is failing.
The color of this smoke will determine the type of elements that could be failing, so it is important to know the causes that can cause our car to get black and dense smoke from the exhaust. It is also essential that know about the possible elements that may be failing since their prompt detection serves to prevent the problem from increasing.
Why does the car expel black smoke from the exhaust pipe?
The causes will depend on whether we are talking about a gasoline engine or a diesel engine. Even so, in both cases it is a question of poor combustion caused by excess fuel or lack of air. This causes the expulsion of carbon monoxide through the exhaust.
Gasoline engine
The black smoke is due to differences in the mixture, which usually increases the increase in gasoline consumption and including loss of engine power. Any of these failures can cause contamination in the environment.
Even so, this is not such a common symptom today because the cars incorporate an injection engine and catalytic converter. Although, if there is a fault, the following points of the car should be checked in order to determine what it could be:
- Air filter is dirty.
- Starter faulty or immobile.
- Fuel level too high in the carburetor.
- Fuel pump pressure too high.
- The automaticity jet is clogged.
- The idle speed is improperly adjusted.
Crankcase breather tubes are clogged. The distributor is incorrectly positioned.
