Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday lost an application filed with a New York appellate court to stay a contempt order and, as a result, you must still continue to pay a fine of $25,000 dollars per day.

On 25 April, Trump was declared in contempt by the judge of the Manhattan Supreme Court , Arthur Engoron, for failing to comply with a subpoena from New York Attorney General Letitia James, who is seeking records for her civil investigation of the Trump Organization.

James is investigating allegations that the Trump Organization improperly manipulated stated valuations of real estate assets to obtain more favorable financial conditions in loans, insurance and taxes.

Engoron imposed the daily fine of $10,000 dollars until satisfied that Trump complied with the subpoena.

On Friday, the judge upheld the fine and contempt order , saying that the new affidavits from Trump and his lawyers, which stated that they could not find the documents sought, are not sufficient proof of their compliance with the subpoena.

Trump’s lawyer asked the Appellate Division of the First Judicial Department on Monday suspend Engoron’s contempt order while he appeals the judge’s decision. The attorney, Alina Habba, argued in a filing that the contempt order was “inconceivable and indefensible.”

That division denied the stay request the next day, according to a written decision. “Provisional application denied,” the division said in the decision, which did not offer an explanation for the denial.

Early Tuesday, the attorney general of the District of Columbia announced that the Trump Organization and the Trump presidential inaugural committee have agreed to pay that city $750,000 dollars to settle a lawsuit alleging that those entities and the Trump Hotel embezzled illegally funds the non-profit committee, to enrich the Trump family.

The defendants did not admit irregularities as part of that agreement.
