Archdiocese of Kansas expels priest who sexually abused a minor

A Kansas City Catholic father was accused of sexually abusing a child, while he was part of a Catholic camp center. The bishops decided to expel them while the complaint was clarified.

The father Michael Scully, who had collaborated with the Haskell Indian Nations University Catholic Camp Center in Lawrence. In addition worked in two parishes: St. John the Evangelist in Lawrence and Holy Family in Eudora.

After the accusation that he had sexually abused a minor, the province of the Capuchin Franciscans of Central America and the archdiocese had to relieve him of his position.

Although Priest Scully denies all the accusations, the archdiocese extended the message to those who have information regarding this problem or if they know of another similar matter that needs to be reviewed by the authorities.

A report was also sent to the Churches in Kansas and Colorado, in the Hays Chapels at Thomas More Prep Marian and St Joseph’s Catholic Church, where Fr. Michael Scully provided his services, to request information c about him

At the moment, Father Scully is is outside the Archdiocese of Kansas, pending resolution of the issue. The child’s identity was withheld for security reasons.

The network of survivors of abuse by priests, a support group for men, women and children who have suffered at the hands of religious and institutional authorities, to make public the complaint so that more victims of the clergyman can be sought.

Last October, Kansas legislators had revealed that more than 80 cases of sexual abuse against minors who had been provoked by priests since 2018.
