There are only days left for the Mexican boxer Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez to return to the ring after a 2021 successful on all fronts. His next challenge is to show that he can succeed after having risen in category by disputing the WBA heavyweight belt against the Russian Dmitry Bivol.

In this sense, the former boxer Alfonso Zamora

, much loved by Mexican sports, does not see his compatriot as a favorite and does not support him either take the victory next Saturday, May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“On paper it should to win Bivol, from my boxing point of view he must win”

From the point of view of the former bantamweight world champion, the Russian is superior to the Canelo in aspects such as weight, punch, height, reach and resistance: “He is a very strong kid”.

Bivol has extensive experience in the amateur. From a very young age he won world championships and left the modality with a record of 268-.

“He has enough experience in amateur boxing to fight a kid with Canelo’s record, however, in Canelo’s fights you have to expect everything, we don’t know what he is he is going to try”, remarked Zamora, without removing the favorite star from Bivol.

It is not the first time that a public figure or boxing analyst of Mexican nationality questions the capabilities of Saúl Álvarez, who Despite the fact that in recent years he has shown that he can break down any wall that stands in his way, there are still those who doubt his abilities.

The journalist David Faitelson is one of them. On several occasions he has commented on the screens of the sports network ESPN that he considers Canelo a “good boxer” but not the best of today and “much less invincible.”

Alfonso Zamora is of that tendency. In the interview he gave to the outlet Izquierdazo, stressed that Álvarez’s victory would be a “surprise”:

“For me it would be surprise if Canelo wins, in my opinion; Bivol must win, administratively, Canelo”

Zamora, silver medal winner at the Munich Olympics 1972, affirms that the man from Guadalajara will be slow for the natural fighters of light heavy It must be remembered that Saul climbed from the 60 pounds (76 kg ) up to 175 pounds (79 kg) for the lawsuit against Bivol.

“Canelo will be slow for natural fighters at that weight. Bivol is a natural fighter, he should go all the way, Canelo at most in light heavyweight”, remarked the glory of Mexican boxing.

Bob Arum believes otherwise: he sees Canelo Álvarez rolling over on Saturday

Zamora’s opinion completely contradicts the criteria of a veteran in boxing promotion such as Bob Arum.

“He is a warrior and has a great coach like Eddy Reynoso, so I think it is too much for Bivol”, said the founder of Top Rank in conversation with Little Giant Boxing.
