Benjamín Arellano Félix, who was the leader of the cartel that bears their surnames and whose heyday took place in the decade of the 54 and 90, will ask the authorities of the United States

his early release “ out of compassion and humanitarian reasons”. The reason with which he wants to justify his freedom is striking, considering that the Arellano Félix cartel (CAF or Tijuana Cartel) was one of the most bloodthirsty at the time. “El Mín”, as his brothers called him, is serving a sentence that ends until the year 2033 for charges of organized crime.

“We had access to the file that reveals that since the past 26 in April of this year filed a petition for a hearing to be held where he will ask to be released early, in fact immediately (…) As he has a sentence to serve in Mexico, he was serving it when he was extradited,” journalist Laura Sánchez Ley, in charge of making the news known, reported in her account, which was already published in the newspaper Millennium.

The former leader of the Arellano Félix cartel filed a petition to hold a hearing where he will request to be released early, he wants it to be immediately. It is worth mentioning that the United States Department of Justice classified the document as “reserved”, but in a summary it is revealed that the defendant and his defense will seek (for the section 18 one thousand 3582 of the legal code) that the judge reconsiders that prison is not an adequate means to promote rehabilitation or for “extraordinary and weighty justified reasons”; however, this would only apply in some cases.

The road to prison

Benjamín Arellano Félix was arrested in the year 2002 , in Mexico, was later extradited to the United States. In the year 2012, the US authorities sentenced him to 25 years in prison, after a negotiation that included $100,000, of dollars. Remember that the rest of Benjamín’s brothers relieved him to preserve the leadership of the organization, but little by little they were apprehended or killed.
