The Italian Serie A became this weekend in the first football championship to broadcast a match in the so-called metaverse, a new virtual environment in which it is possible to interact with all the elements.

The metaverse is, more and more, a reality . A new digital world in which relating to all elements is possible, and in which now also you can watch football.

Serie A has become the first league on the planet to bring football to this environment. Milan-Fiorentina was the clash chosen to launch this initiative, although it was exclusively aimed at the Middle East and North Africa.

The executive director of Serie A, the Italian Luigi De Siervo, declared this Monday that the objective is “to be as close as possible to our users”.

“Young people spend time in the metaverse. We try to be the first football league to interpret the concept of innovation. It’s like watching a game with other people, in a shared immersion. of the football experience. So does football lose its humanity? No, they are two connected phenomena, nobody wants to take away poetry or humanity from football”, said De Siervo on ‘Rai Radio 1’.

The president assured that they are trying to get closer to the younger generations: “A modern league must put technology at the service of entertainment, in this case in a virtual stadium, in a function a little closer to a video game. We are trying to ‘involve’ more the younger generations, something more fragmented and dispersed”.

In addition, De Servant revealed the problem of piracy for ‘Calcio’: “In Italy we are leaders in piracy. If everyone saw the games in the ‘Pezzotto’ (hacking method available in Italy), I wouldn’t be here either, we wouldn’t have the resources to continue”.
