Madrid was on Sunday night the world capital of cinema and television in Latin America, Spain and Portugal. The IX Edition of the Platino Awards for Ibero-American Cinema saw how the film “El Buen Patrón”, directed by Fernando León de Aranoa (who took to the stage three times as screenwriter, director and producer ) and starring Javier Bardem (Best Actor for his role as a corrupt businessman), won the main awards in the cinema category as I already did it at the Goya Awards.
This Sunday was Mother’s Day in Spain and Javier Bardem dedicated his award to his mother, Pilar Bardem, who died last year. He also had words of remembrance for Juan Diego, who had disappeared just two days before, whom he defined as “a master in his ethics as a citizen, for his behavior as a person and for his social commitment.”
Among the television series, the Argentine production “El Reino” won three Platinums -Best Series, Best Creator (Marcelo Piñeyro and Claudia Piñeiro) and Best Supporting Actor (Joaquín Furriel ).
Other prizes were distributed among different productions. Carmen Maura received the Platinum Honor Award that had been previously announced.
The gala, presented by Argentina’s Lali Espósito and Miguel Ángel Muñoz, had numerous memories for the war in Ukraine. Among them, the surprise interpretation of the song “I only ask God” by Ana Belén.
There were many stars who attended the IFEMA Conference Center at the Fair of Madrid, where the gala was held after a red carpet that lasted almost four hours by the numerous celebrities and media present from dozens of countries.
The party after the gala, which took place in the same venue, was sponsored by the Xcaret park in Riviera Maya, Mexico, where these awards have also been held.
Platinum Awards 2022 to theatrical films
The big winner was “El Buen Patron” with four awards out of the eleven for which it was nominated. “Parallel Mothers” by Pedro Almodóvar followed it with three Platinum awards: Best Supporting Female Performance for Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Best Art Direction for Antxón Gómez and Best Original Music for Alberto Iglesias . The Spanish composer has already accumulated a record five Platinum Awards.
“Karnawal” (film co-produced by Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Bolivia and Norway) won two awards: Best Fiction First Film and Best Supporting Male Performance for Alfredo Castro.
Seven more films won a Platinum Award: the Spanish “Maixabel” -Best Actress for Blanca Portillo-; “7 prisoners”, Best Editing; the Mexican “Los lobos” won the Platinum for Cinema and Education in Values; the Colombian “Memoria”, Best Sound; the Spanish “Mediterráneo”, Best Photography; and the Brazilians “Ainbo, the Amazon Warrior” and “A Última Floresta”, Best Animated Film and Best Documentary.
Platinum Awards 2022 to television series
Among the television productions, “The Kingdom“, a Netflix original Argentine dramatic thriller that tells how a vice-presidential candidate, an evangelical pastor, must take the place of the presidential candidate in Argentina, after he is assassinated during the electoral campaign. The second season is now being filmed.
“El Reino”, a creation by Marcelo Piñeyro and Claudia Piñeiro, won over the Chilean “Isabel”, and the Mexican “Luis Miguel: La serie ” and “Narcos: Mexico”.
The Platinum Award for Best Series Actress went to the Chilean Daniela Ramírez for her portrayal of the writer Isabel Allende in “Isabel.” The award for Best Series Actor went to Javier Cámara for the comedy “Venga Juan”.
The successful “La Casa de Papel” won a Platinum Award for Best Supporting Actress. for the Spanish Najwa Nimri for her role as the policewoman Alicia Sierra in the last season of the Netflix series.
