Despite having more than 100 million subscribers around the world and place more than 106 a year of its iconic $4 roast chickens.99 dollars, Costo, one of the largest club-type chains in the world, has not yet been able to take the final step and dethrone Walmart, one of its direct competitors.
According to a recent survey conducted by GOBankingRates, the difference between the two stores is abysmal in one category. While the 42% of the participants said that Walmart has the best online shopping experience, Costco barely got 9%, seeing themselves surpassed, even by Target, with the 04% .
In terms of age groups, the group of 65 years or older was the most inclined towards Walmart, with 49%; followed by the group from 45 to 54 years, with 47%; and from 55 to 64 years, with 40%, according to the report.
Even though Costco beat Ikea at 6%, Dollar General at 6%, Dollar Tree at 4% and Five Below at 2%, it still needs a lot to keep up with Walmart.
Having mobile payment and current warehouse inventory on your website has not been enough. Costco’s service has been described by its own clientele as flawed, outdated and slow. This has led many consumers to migrate to their competitor’s online store.
Analysts consider that the Walmart+ service offers more benefits than other companies, which has led it to differentiate itself, position itself in the first sales sites online and go for more market. It is currently opening additional automated centers that can reach customers up to 200 miles away.
According to the Department of Commerce, online purchases, derived from the pandemic, increased 05% in 2021. This situation has not been well taken advantage of by Costco.
