Benedict Cumberbatch is one of the Hollywood luminaries who has spoken in favor of Ukraine repeatedly, and recently proved his commitment to the Ukrainian people by revealing that will host a refugee family in his native United Kingdom. Keep reading to find out the details!
In an interview with Sky News, the actor behind films like “Doctor Strange” and “The Power of the Dog” opened up about his work in support of those Ukrainians who have had to leave their country as a result of the Russian invasion.
He stated that several Ukrainians who fled the country are on their way home: “I am monitoring their progress every day,” he said. “Unfortunately, they are undergoing medical treatment. To say any more about that would be an invasion of their privacy, and to say too much about when they come and how I’ll handle it would be an invasion of mine. I want to give them stability after the turmoil they have experienced, and that will happen in my house “, Cumberbatch added.
However, this is not the only way in which Benedict has supported the cause, as he reported that he has also helped cover the cost of refugee housing in the UK. “I have been trying to help financially in a couple of cases”, he pointed out.
To end his speech, the Oscar nominee urged his colleagues in Hollywood and the government to collaborate with the cause: “ We need to put pressure on our politicians to continue to create some kind of shelter here for people who are suffering ,” he said.
