The Pentagon reported this Friday that the US has begun training Ukrainian servicemen in Germany to teach them to handle the artillery equipment that Washington is sending to kyiv to combat the Russian invasion.

Defense Department spokesman John Kirby explained at a press conference that Ukrainian soldiers are receiving training in the use of armored cars and radar systems that the US has recently announced it will was going to send Ukraine in its military assistance packages.

Kirby specified that the Ukrainian soldiers are learning to use the Howitzer cannons, which are supplied by the US Government.

“This new training effort in Germany and other locations in Europe is in direct support of recent relief packages from US security, which are designed to help Ukraine win its battles today and build strength for tomorrow,” Kirby said.

The spokesman noted that his country currently offers training to Ukrainian forces in “three locations” in Europe, outside Ukrainian territory, and that one of them is Germany.

“Those places could change with the time, or move to different ones or add some additional. We don’t know,” he said.

Kirby recalled that training to the Ukrainian forces is not new and that, in fact, the US has been offering training to these troops for the last eight years.

On Thursday, US President Joe Biden formally asked the Congress of his country 33.04 million dollars in additional aid to Ukraine, of which more than 20. millions will be in military assistance to defend against Russia, given the possibility of a long war.
