Joel Embiid suffers an orbital fracture and concussion after a strong blow and will be indefinitely dropped from the 76ers (Video)

Joel Embiid, center for the 76ers of Philadelphia, suffered a severe blow to his eye that caused an orbital fracture as well as a minor concussion during the first round playoff game against the Toronto Raptors.

Embiid left the game clearly injured and retired to the dressing rooms to check his injury. After the tests they reported that he will be on indefinite leave due to the concussion and the strong blow to his right eye.

The play in which @JoelEmbiid was injured was at the close of a match that had already been defined for a long time. @Sixers wanted to do an exorcism of their demons in Toronto. That is why you take your strongholds off the field with an advantage of 29 and four minutes to play.

Now he will miss at least the beginning of the Eastern semifinal against the Miami Heat while waiting for the doctors to see his evolution. This is a very important loss for the Sixers in which the Cameroonian is the big star.

One of the things that the coaching staff is complaining about is why Embiid was on the court when his team was winning by 29 points and there were less than four minutes left on the clock. The Sixers defeated the Raptors and will now face the Miami Heat in the second round.

The last time Embiid suffered a similar injury, he was out for three weeks. An injury that would practically leave him out of the NBA postseason.

This is the action in which Joel Embiid suffered his right orbital fracture and concussion… Pascal Siakam’s accidental elbow.

The evolution of the blow is still awaited, in which the doctors will determine if he can play with some protection or will be left out of one of the closest series of this second round.

In the first round of the playoffs against the Raptors, Embiid added 11.2 points (52 % success in shooting) and 11,3 rebounds on average per game.

Embiid is one of the three finalists for the MVP together Serbian Nikola Jokic (winner last year) and Greek Giannis Antetokounmpo (winner in 2019 and 2020).

Throughout this course, Embiid achieved 30, 6 points (with a 52, 9% shooting accuracy), 11,7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.1 ro bos and an average of 1.5 blocks per game.

Embiid was the top scorer this season in the NBA, something that a center had not achieved since Shaquille O’ Neal (Los Angeles Lakers) in the season 1999-2000.
