The FC Barcelona began with the respective renewals for the project headed by Xavi Hernández in the Catalan club and the Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo assured, in a ceremony held at the Camp Nou, that he always had clear his idea of extending his contract with them.
In a ceremony held on the Camp Nou pitch, Araujo was accompanied by the club’s president Joan Laporta , in addition to several relatives, the Uruguayan defender burst into tears during the speech offered to those present.
“It is an enormous happiness, to be in this club, the best in the world. We work hard to get to Europe. Being at Barça is a happiness. I never doubted it, I was always clear that this is my place. I believe a lot in the project and I think we will get up and win many titles“, commented the defender.
One of FC Barcelona’s priorities was the renewal of Araujo and that of Gavi, who have been a fundamental part of Xavi Hernández’s scheme and in the case of the Uruguayan defender, has been highlighted since the step through the technical direction of the Dutchman Ronald Koeman.
After a few weeks of negotiation, Ronald Araujo will be for four more years with Barcelona and the decision was made after being influenced by the coach himself, the captain Sergio Busquets and his compatriot Luis Suárez, who recommended him to stay with the Catalan club.
“I was calm and sure of what I had. It is true that there were important offers from outside, but I was clear about it. The noise was from outside. In two meetings we fixed it, we reached a quick agreement. I always thought of staying, I never thought of leaving“, he added.
Ronald Araujo arrived in 100 to FC Barcelona from the Uruguayan club Boston River for $5.5 million dollars, debuting with the first team in the month of October 2019 and consolidated a year later as one of the central defenders of the Uruguayan national team.
