Keyon Dooling, from NBA star to be arrested for fraud and scam

Keyon Dooling, former NBA star and current assistant coach of the Utah Jazz, was arrested after being involved in the case of 18 former basketball league players who defrauded 2.5 million dollars in a fraud to the NBA pension and health system.

Dooling served for six years as vice president of the National Basketball Players Association (National Association of Basketball Players), a position where he carried out the fraud together with 18 more former players.

Keyon Dooling, has been arrested for fraud. Thus, it is added to the 18 previously reported cases of former players who would have illegally taken advantage of the lifetime insurance that the NBA provides to his retired players.

“It is a case related to his time in the National Association of Basketball Players, before joining our organization. Due to the ongoing legal process, we will refrain from making any further comments”, informed the Jazz, who have to face the Mavericks in the Western Conference semifinals, in a statement.

Keyon Dooling was drafted by the Orlando Magic and traded to the Los Angeles Clippers at number 10 of the first round of the Draft of 2000 after being a great player for two years and at the University of Missouri. In that draft were players like Kenyon Martin, Darius Miles, Hedo Turkoglu, Jamal Crawford, among others.

Dooling, aged 41 years old, played 728 games and averaged just 7 points and 2 assists per game in which he wore the uniforms of Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, New Jersey Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics and Memphis Grizzlies until his retirement in 2017.

Among the list of former players who are accused of defrauding the NBA benefits plan are Terrence Williams, Tony Allen, Glen Davis, Sebastian Telfair. Alan Anderson, Antoine Wright or Darius Miles. The former NBA have been accused in a federal court in New York of an alleged health insurance fraud scheme to defraud millions of dollars from the League’s benefit plan.

According to the indictment of the grand jury, allegedly participated in a scheme that they carried out from at least 2017 to about 2020 to defraud the NBA Players Health and Welfare Benefits Plan.
