Christian Pulisic came on in the last 15 minutes and saved Chelsea with a great goal to secure Champions League places

A goal by Christian Pulisic in the minute 90 served for Chelsea to beat West Ham United this Saturday (1-0), in a match in which the ‘Hammers’ played the last five minutes with one player less due to the expulsion of Craig Dawson in a penalty that Jorginho later missed when the result was a draw.

The error in the maximum penalty compromised the victory of the ‘Blues’, who achieved it at the buzzer when in stoppage timeo Pulisic culminated a great offensive transition with a cross shot against which Lukasz Fabianski could do nothing, the man who prevented the defeat from being bigger and coming sooner.

The Polish goalkeeper made several worthwhile saves, especially one against N’golo Kanté and another against Timo Werner , in addition to stopping Jorginho’s penalty. The Italian wasted an opportunity to score after Dawson brought down Lukaku when he was left alone in heads-up play. The VAR reviewed the play and expelled the center-back.

The ‘Hammers’, who say goodbye to the options they had to get into the Champions League, reserved important players like Jarrod Bowen and Declan Rice, with the semi-final tie against Eintracht Frankfurt in the lead.

The victory allows Thomas’ men Tuchel recover from the loss during the week against Arsenal and break away from the ‘Gunners’, who remain five points behind third place.

West Ham is seventh, with 52 units, eight behind the Champions League and three ahead of the eighth, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Chelsea has three wins and two losses in its last five games, and, entrenched in third position, is moving away from the incessant fight for fourth and last place of direct qualification to the UEFA Champions League.

Next Thursday they will have a high-tension game when they have to face Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United and they are going through their worst moment of the campaign. They will then end the week next Sunday against Everton, a Merseyside side struggling to climb out of relegation from the Premier League table.

One of Chelsea’s most anticipated matches at the end of the season will be 14 in May against Liverpool in the FA Cup final.
