Hispanic mother from Texas accused of leaving her five children alone and without food

Katerin Celeste Torres Martínez was detained by Houston authorities accused of abandoning her five children for a whole day, without food and special care. The judge set a bond of $36,000.

The administrators of the apartment where Torres Martínez lives with his five children in Greenspoint, called the police, after noticing that the children were alone at home.

The officers arrived at the place where the the complaint and discovered a one and a half year old girl walking without shoes through the parking lot of the set of buildings. The little ones, 3 and 4 years old, were playing outside and the main door of the apartment was open.

Torres Martínez’s eldest son, only 8 years old, was inside with his 3-month-old brother, who had a colostomy bag that was already full because they had not changed it in all day. The five minors were transferred to Texas Children’s Hospital to receive food and evaluations.

The agents searched the entire apartment and saw that in the kitchen there was only a bag of rice, a box of cereal and in the refrigerator milk that was already expired , they think that the minors were alone and without food throughout the day.

Torres Martínez was located through from his phone and told them that he had left for minutes to buy the milk, but the officers denied it, since they had more 30 minutes within your home.

Child Protective Service took custody of the five children and they are in the foster care. Likewise, they added to the mother’s accusation file, that these days they had closed a case with her due to carelessness and lack of medical attention for the three-month-old baby.

Katerin Celeste Torres Martínez was charged with abandonment and child endangerment. Had to appear before a judge where prosecutors demanded bail and that she have no contact with her children.

The judge set his bail at $30,000 for the abandonment charge and $30,000 for the charge of putting in danger to a minor.
