André Pierre Gignac, Tigres star striker and connoisseur of what it means to face the Mexican national team sent a message to Emiliano Martínez, goalkeeper of the Argentine national team, after he considered that ‘El Tri’ is an easy rival.
The Frenchman gave his opinion totally the opposite of what the ‘Dibu’ considers of the Mexican national team and in an interview granted to Telemundo, he recommended to the Aston Villa goalkeeper not to take the match against Mexico lightly since he knows that he could be quite a tough opponent.
And it is that the French striker remembered when the World Cup in South Africa was played 2010 where Gauls and Aztecs faced each other and emphasized that the match was really tough despite the great stars that France had.
“ Mexico played me in South Africa and we knew it was not going to be easy. We had Thierry Henry, Nicolas Anelka, Frank Ribery; we had incredible players“
In the same way, Gignac remembered that in that type of competitions anything can happen and highlighted what Mexico did against Germany in the World Cup in Russia 2018, where the Aztecs beat the Teutons.
“Mexico, when it is in a competition, with the desire to have that shirt on, anything can happen. We saw it against Germany. It doesn’t matter that the world champion ‘always’ comes out in the first round. France will not, hopefully, not get out of the group stage, but nobody can underestimate Mexico. Nobody”, commented Gignac.
Finally, the Frenchman commented that he believes there may be surprises with Mexico and that he believes in the ‘Tri’ because he knows that Mexican pride comes out in these competitions.
“I do believe in Mexico in official competitions because that shirt is heavy. Mexican pride comes out in competitions and I like that”, concluded the Tigres striker.
