The Canyon mid-size truck will be refreshed with a new model debuting in the summer this year under the name 2022. It will be a more aggressive off-road AT4X version, which was also recently added to the GMC Sierra 1500 from full size.
It will be GMC’s version of the Chevy Colorado ZR2 and will help compete with the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon and even the Ford Ranger Raptor.
Since the current generation Canyon debuted in 2014, GMC has updated the mid-size truck over the years to offer the AT4 trim and a package of off-road performance that adds a 1-inch suspension leveling kit and off-road rocker panel protection.
Currently GMC offers a Canyon AT4, minus the X, and is equipped with Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires, an all-terrain-capable suspension, locking rear differential for the transfer case, and a skid plate.
The AT4X it will increase the off-road capability of the model, adding new advantages. Although GMC has not yet given details about this new version, it is expected to be quite similar to the ZR2 model.
Should include Multimatic valve dampers, locking front and rear diffs, Goodyear Wrangler Territory off-road tires, and a larger stance with more free space.
This new Canyon will also debut a new look. The image posted on their social networks shows the badge, rails and wheels of 17 inches with AT4X beadlock capability.
