Google released an emergency update to its Chrome browser after detected a vulnerability that put users at risk and that could be exploited by hackers.

“Google is aware that there is an exploit for CVE -2022-1364 in Internet”, the browser developers published in an official statement.

Although Google offered few details about the update, they did indicate that it is a high-level zero-day vulnerability. This means that the risk of users falling victim to a hacker was particularly high.

The update is available for computers with both Windows and Mac operating systems.

At the moment, no It is known how many users could have been exposed to the security flaw and if it was previously exploited by hackers.

As on previous occasions Google informed that it will not offer details about the fault found until most of its users have managed to download and install the corresponding security patch.

The justification for this mode of acting on the part of the company is that in this way they prevent criminals who were not aware of the error, from trying to use it for their benefit ata calling browser users who are not yet protected.

Detection of this new security flaw comes just weeks after Chrome developers reported that they had detected a similar security flaw. On that occasion they indicated that the error affected more than 3,000 million users throughout the world.

Download the update

Google reported that version distribution 127.0.4896.127 from your browser could take days or even weeks so users could be in danger even though the security patch is already available.

For this reason, those users who wish to do so can install manual update and skip the automatic system used by Chrome. To do this, they must enter the browser and go to the configuration menu which is located in the upper left part of the screen in the form of 3 vertical dots.

Once this is done, the user must press the button “chrome information” to be redirected to a new tab in which the system will perform a check to identify if an update is available. If this is the case, the browser will automatically start the download and installation of it, so the computer will already be safe from possible attacks.
